The impressive 20.5 inches (52 cm) wide 'Stout' pendant is part of the Beat Lights family made by British designer Tom Dixon. This popular modern pendant lamp marks the resurgence of interest in hand made designs. Taking inspiration from Tom Dixon's travels around the globe, 'Stout' is made from hand-beaten brass reviving the rapidly vanishing skills of Indian master craftsmen. The exterior of the beaten brass is coated with a matte black finish in contrast to the warm golden interior. Tom Dixon's Stout pendant light can be hung as a cluster with other Beat Lights or alone creating an impressive design statement.

The design and inception of the Beat Lights originated from a field trip to India that Tom Dixon took his Royal College students on. Their mission was to investigate how design affects the livelihood of different cultures and peoples. They spent days with local tinkerers, brass beaters and marble workers. It was there that they discovered a method of metal manufacturing that appealed to them because of its heritage and unique aesthetic. The Beat Lights employ these traditional techniques in their production. The Tom Dixon Beat Lights are comprised of a series of hammered copper pendant lights inspired by the sculptural simplicity of brass cooking pots and traditional water vessels on the subcontinent. The Beat lights are spun and hand-beaten by renowned skilled craftsmen of Moradabad in Northern India.
